i was born nine summers ago, in a grove about 15 minutes
away from big lake. i was the oldest of six tiglings and was
the cat's meow of mamatig and daddytig. it was a jungle
out there and one day, my little brother TIGER127 disappeared
(it really was a jungle out there! i wish i knew what happened!).
mamatig taught us just about everything, because daddytig was
the leader of our pack. we learned to run, stalk, and capture
prey, and mamatig made sure to teach us how important "family"
was. daddytig was a strict disciplinarian, but we learned from
him how important it was to work for the good of the pack.
one day, daddytig didn't come home. much later, i learned from
a hyena acquaintance of mine who works downtown that the rumor
mill said daddytig had been shot by hunters, but this has never
been confirmed. after a closely-contested election, i was voted
to be leader (at seven years, the youngest in the history of our
pack!), and since that time i've been responsible for all major
decisions. it's also my job to assign food-hunting duties to my
best workers.
well, gotta go. administrative matters demand too much of my
attention these days. besides, one of my scouts reported that
a herd of zebras will pass big lake later today. could be a
wonderful dinner!
okay, okay....enough poor attempts at humor. my real name and date
of birth have always been listed on my profile, for those of you who
are interested. i'm older than most of you (but not as old as stew91!),
having been born in the first wave of the baby boom after ww2. raised
in a middle-class family in several suburbs of nyc (my father was a
general contrator and we moved around often), i find it hard to watch
"the wonder years" without seeing something that rings a bell.
college in the late 60s was a gas, and one of my all-time highlights
was actually going to the woodstock festival between my junior
and senior years! i earned my bachelor's degree in economics (minor
in poli sci) at the university of rochester, rochester, new york,
and graduated the year of kent state.
after spending the next six months fulfilling my military requirement
in the army reserve (unlike dan quayle, i freely confess my cowardice!),
i graduated from the university of connecticut school of law. my first
job offer was from a small firm in downtown manhattan and i jumped at the
opportunity (o~/...if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere...).
after a few years, i was invited to join a medium-size wall street firm,
where i eventually became a partner and associate managing attorney.
i specialize in personal injury litigation, and the most exciting part of
that job had to do with something called "toxic shock syndrome". i was
retained by four different insurance companies who provided different
coverages to a major manufacturer of tampons. i was the "money man" --
the nationwide supervisor, whose job it was to decide how much to pay in
settlement, or else to say: "screw it! try the case!" pretty heady stuff!
about five years ago, i withdrew from the firm, having realized that my
mental health is simply more important than the money. since then, i have
established my own business as a "lawyer's lawyer". i've always loved to
write, and i now sell my expertise to other lawyers: they hire me to write
their paperwork, pleadings, and briefs!
i live in greenwich village, new york city, and love going to some of the
jazz clubs nearby. my regular tuesday night poker game meets irregularly
on tuesday nights, and we all go to las vegas together to play in the world
series of poker at binion's horseshoe casino! next to new york, my favorite
cities are san francisco, lake tahoe, vegas, and any small town in vermont
(where i often take a share in a ski chalet). although i've had a couple
long-term relationships, i've never married and am currently unattached.
i love just about every kind of game (but not role-playing games, though),
and, about three years ago, got to live a dream come true! after hundreds
of post cards, a grueling written exam, and an arduous screening process,
i got to appear on "jeopardy!"!!!!! i had a ball, but didn't win any money.
they tape five shows a day, so i got to meet about 17 other contestants.
i've never met a group of people so bright and clever and funny....until i
went online about two months ago! i've never used a computer before, and
now wonder how i managed to live so long without one!
if any of you are in town on a thursday night, try to find a little speak-
easy in the village that dates back to prohibition times called "chumley's"
(it's motto is: "chumley's? you can't get there from here!"). we always
watch "jeopardy!" at 7:00 pm! i'll be the guy in the corner shouting out
all the answers!!
see ya!
